You might combine the penguin and polar bear narratives…if the living on different poles thing isn’t an issue. But then they’d need to find two umbrellas.
Alternatively, Pete might discover that he can float. Or that water isn’t so bad and that he doesn’t need his umbrella. But given the centrality of umbrellas to the plot, that last is perhaps unlikely.
